Karie Hillery
Lead vocals/keyboards/songwriter/producer.
Karie has been singing since
birth...professionally since her teenage years and has toured extensively with
bands and solo throughout Europe and the West. Her recording career began in
the 1980’s with the release of two charting dance singles and her first all
original full length album/cassette Let Down Your Walls. This was followed by
an additional cassette in 1992 Mixed Up, and CDs Transitions (1995), Bridge the
Distance (1999) and To Your Heart (2002). Karie is an active songwriter and
owner of Dancing Trees Publishing Company as well as One World Records. In 1997
she signed with Mento Music a German sub-publisher/record label. Karie spends
her time writing, recording and touring Europe and the USA as well as producing
outside artists in her recording studio.
Drums, bass, percussion, vocals, guitar and great attitude. Kenny and I adopted each other back in 1994 and have a magically wonderful working relationship. He is rock solid as a rhythm section, has a great ear for vocals and harmony and is the best big brother anyone could ever adopt. We work primarily on recording projects, but as of the summer of 2005 he is back gigging live from duo to full band! He currently plays with “The Sorrentinos” a popular band in Santa Rosa opening for great acts like Credence Clearwater, Chicago, Chris Isaak and Jeff Beck.
Mike LaBolle
Drums, percussion, trumpet, vibes, shy smiles and weird humor. Mike is a creative multi-instrumentalist who can cover any style you need from jazz to country. He can hold down the bottom with congas and hand percussion to full kit. Mike plays in several bands of varying styles as well as teaches full time in Humboldt County schools.
Bobby Long
Giutar, banjo, violin and vocals. Bobby currently performs regularly with the Tumbleweeds in Eureka, CA
Rick MacKenzie
Flute, Congas, percussion, vocals and patience. Rick is the newest member and has been wonderful to play with. He has added his musical talents to many groups from LA to Humboldt County.
Jeff Nassi
Drums percussion and off color politically incorrect humor. Jeff and I worked together in cover bands in LA back in the days when you could earn a living that way. He climbed the ladder, eventually performing with Meredith Brooks (“I’m A Bitch”) and loves working with me because I am not one! He moved all over the USA and when he relocated to the SF Bay Area, we started playing together again…how fun!
Rafael Herrera
Drums, percussion, vocals Starting out in Calexico California, making his way to San Diego and
finally the San Francisco Bay Area. His vocal work with Caminante (a group comprised of his
brother Francisco and sister Liliana), can be heard on recordings from Omar Sosa, Maldita Vecindad, Santero
and Carne Cruda. Currently studying drums with Andrew Griffin and also does voice over work in the
Bay Area.
Jay Byker
Guitar, bass, vocals, bad jokes and onstage wise cracks. Jay recently quit his job as the music teacher at Fortuna HS and is now teaching at the elementary level….hoping to have a little more time to run the Fortuna Music Mart which he owns…(and of course play more with me!)
Brigette Brannan
Vocals, percussion and general sexy sweetness. Brigette has been singing all her life and with me since 1993. Her blend and wonderful tonal quality is just angelic whether she is backing me up, singing lead in her own band, “Twango McCallum” or teaming up with Marcia Mendels in their great classic rock band.
Marcia Mendels
Vocals, percussion, keyboards and unbelievable patience and organizational skills. Marcia had her own band the “Dive Bombers” in Chicago for many years. Most recently she organized the group “Night Hawk” a classic rock band that also plays original material. She has an amazingly powerful voice for such a petite woman and is a blast to work with.
Gloria Gold
Vocals/Percussion and great stage energy...queen of
goofyness. Also known as Mrs Jay Byker, Gloria brings a life time of
professional performing and studio experience to the group having
toured with Jay and their band all over the Pacific Northwest including
a long stint in Alaska where she warmed everyone's heart as she still
does to this day!..She is also known for tremendous patience because
she has managed to remain married to Jay for well....a really really
long time...and should get an award for putting up with his jokes.
Peter Amazing
Bass and all around fantastic house painter. Peter
brings many years of experience and a dry sense of humor...something
needed to balance the rest of the rowdy family! Peter is a somewhat
new member of the family..we adopted him in 2004, although he has been a member
of our little local community and my neighbor forever! Peter graces the
stage in many local bands including being one of Darryl Cherney's
"Chernobles", and several other bands.
Jimmy Dewrance
Blues harp, vocals, nice guy and awesome black and white photographer. When in the San Jose area or thereabouts, Jimmy will often honor me/us with his magical harmonica styling which compliment just about any style of music and adds just the perfect touch to our shows.
Steve Dellay “Stevie D”
Guitar, vocals and great “hair bear” curls. Steve has played with us off and on since 1994 and is a great rock lead guitarist and does some pretty darn cool acoustic stuff too. He is a great songwriter, a techno wizard, producer, editor, videographer and a teddy bear.
Fretless bass, vocals and incredible luthier. Ken played with me for 10 years and still records and plays an occasional show with us, between his business and other gigs. He has his own instrument building company; “Kenneth Lawrence Instruments” and his basses have graced the cover of Bass Player Magazine. Among his regular clients are Metallica. His instruments as well as his playing style are both works of art.
Karie Hillery's Extended Family

Country, rockin’ out or torchy ballads, Karie Hillery's Extended Family showcases
musical diversity with remarkable quality.
